According to NCRB Report between 2019 and 2021, India witnessed a concerning trend with 13,13,078 girls and women reported missing across the country. This figure includes 2,51,430 girls under 18 and 10,61,648 women above 18, highlighting a significant issue that demands urgent attention. In 2019, 82,084 girls and 3,42,168 women went missing. The numbers slightly decreased in 2020 with 79,233 girls and 3,44,422 women missing. However, 2021 saw an increase with 90,113 girls and 3,75,058 women reported missing.
Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest number of missing persons with 38,234 girls and 1,60,180 women, followed closely by West Bengal with 36,606 girls and 1,56,905 women. Maharashtra also reported high numbers with 13,033 girls and 1,78,400 women missing during the same period. Delhi, among the Union Territories, saw 22,919 girls and 61,054 women missing. The recovery rates reveal a significant number of unresolved cases. In 2019, 1,68,793 women were recovered, while the number of girls recovered was not provided. In 2020, 2,24,043 women were recovered, and in 2021, 58,980 girls and 2,02,298 women were recovered. These figures indicate that a substantial number of missing cases remain unresolved each year.
